South Padre Island is located at the southern tip
of Texas, just above Brownsville. It is an extremely narrow strip of land that
lies between the Gulf of Mexico on the east and Laguna Madre, the Intracoastal
Waterway, to the west.

decade, South Padre Island, off the coast of southern Texas, in the Gulf of
Mexico, has become the premier U.S. Spring Break destination. Consisting largely
of sand dunes with sparse vegetation, the island is a popular resort, with
excellent fishing and abundant bird life. Located 2 miles off the southernmost
coast of Texas and only 25 miles from Mexico, with its warm tropical breezes and
