La Quinta in Cedar Park Sees First Electric Car

There was finally some justice done to the Electric Vehicle Hookups at the La Quinta Inn & Suites, the Greenest Hotel in Cedar Park, Texas.

Yesterday, the La Quinta had a guest who requested to recharge their Toyota Prius hybrid, which boasts a gas mileage of over 100 miles per gallon.

Seaweed Relocation – Beach Erosion Prevention

On the morning of June 1, 2010, behind the La Quinta Inn & Suites on South Padre Island, Texas. Our efforts to prevent beach erosion have worked. A couple of weeks ago, we reported on EnjoySPI.com that we were working diligently to clean the sargassum (commonly known as sea weed) from the shore, and stack it up in rows along our sea wall, in order to trap sand and form dunes. If this works, which it has been thus far, it will provide an example of how local beach front businesses can do their part to prevent beach erosion and preserve our precious beach, which hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world enjoy year after year.

BP Oil Spill has not Reached South Padre Island, TX

It is the morning of June 1, 2010, and we are on the north beach, on Andy Bowie Park on South Padre Island.

As you can see, the beaches on this part of the Gulf of Mexico clearly have not been affected by the BP oil spill. There are families and children playing on the beach. A couple is fishing here on the shore. Read more…

Staff of La Quinta works Hard to Prevent Beach Erosion

Every morning about this time of the year, South Padre Island beaches are covered in sargassum (commonly known as seaweed) washed up onto the beach overnight from the gulf. If this sargassum is not collected, it is simply washed away the next night, and replaced by more the following morning. The staff of the La Quinta Inn & Suites has now taken the initiative of collecting the sargassum from the waterfront adjacent to their hotel and forming small piles along their sea wall. This allows for small sand dunes to form directly behind their hotel, ultimately slowing the sand erosion that has been gradually reducing the size of Gulf Beaches year after year.

Earlier this month, the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Cedar Park had their grand opening. This hotel is located only minutes from Lake Travis and nearby downtown Austin.
